2023 Seasonal Storefront Watercolors Calendar
Hello friends! I'm so happy to announce that my 2023 calendar is finally ready for purchase! If you've been following along with me on Instagram, you know I've been working on these paintings for over a year now, and I'm thrilled to finally put them all together in the gorgeous calendar.
The Idea:
My goal of creating a calendar began during my isolation period when I had Covid for the first time in November, 2021. I created my first storefront, a Thanksgiving themed antique store, as a way to celebrate the holiday that I was missing out on! I started thinking about how many holidays and special days the pandemic had taken from people who may be in quarantine, those unable to risk large gatherings, shops that had to scale back on festivities, and towns that just weren't seeing the holiday traffic and celebrations that normally livened up their streets. I decided I wanted to create a way for people to enjoy these seasons, even if it was only through artwork. I committed to painting one detailed storefront each month featuring little signs of the seasons in their window displays. And, I added in some sort of fitting, cute animal to each painting to give them a little life!I hope you take some time to visit my imaginary town of shops and do some window shopping! Get a bit lost in the details of each month and enjoy the feeling of each store. Especially if you are someone who can't get out to enjoy them in person for whatever reason, I hope some of the joy I had in creating these gets passed along to you, and you can find adventure through the art.
Purchasing:
Printed perfectly by zazzle.com, the calendars come in various sizes and styles. I've created a highlight on my Instagram @designsbytiffanyduffy if you're interested in seeing the comparisons.
I recommend the large, two page calendar for the best viewing of all the little details that I snuck into each storefront! This is also the best option if you'd like to frame any of the prints!
The single page, medium calendar is another great option. Printed front and back, this is a lightweight calendar that doesn't have biding through the middle.
The calendars come with many choices for languages, cultures, holiday settings and binding colors. You can even customize them using Zazzle's design tool to add in special events like birthdays, anniversaries, or other important days you want to remember!

This non traditional Christmas card might be my most favorite yet. I used my illustration of a colorful, blooming garden at sunrise with one little squirrel taking in the beautiful view and added the pun "Joy to the Squirrel" to it.
See what I did there?
You all know how much I adore squirrels, so this is just the perfect card for me. No cold, winter holiday vibes here - only warm pinks and greens with birds flying through the sunrays and flowers growing galore!
Who says Christmas cards have to be all snowmen and Santas?

I've completed my beetles!
I may even have to order something for myself - something I never do! That's how much I like them. I'm thinking about this journal or maybe a bigger notebook because I'm a born list-maker and always in need of a notebook. I'll probably end up getting this post-it pad though. Whenever I have to write notes to my sons' teachers I have to scramble to find a paper that's not already scribbled on by my kids. Every time, I wish I had a dedicated notepad and this one will save me the trouble of having to write out my email or phone number on each note, so that's a bonus!
I just love how it all turned out, particularly how they all ended up being really feminine looking. I intended on putting hearts on them and calling them "lovebugs" for Valentine's Day (something my six-year-old son rolled his eyes at me for), but the colors and delicateness (is that a real word?) of all of them together are way more girly than I'd planned. And I'm more than okay with that.
I may need to start a mission now to create a design that my sons would actually like though. I'm thinking soccer balls, as it's literally all they care about and while picking up seven, yes seven, brightly colored soccer balls this morning from the entryway, I thought to myself how pretty all the ball colors were together in the bin. Inspiration really can strike anywhere, apparently.
In the meantime, enjoy my beetlemania (do you see what i did there?) with a few more products of the little buggers.
Beetle Pattern
Monday, March 9, 2020
My six-year-old loves beetles, specifically the ones found in Animal Crossing. For Valentine's Day this year, I decided to draw a saw stag beetle for him. It was SO much fun to draw and paint that I started looking up different kinds of beetles, which was possibly a terrible idea because I am now obsessed with them. There are so many different types and they are all amazingly cool. I keep meaning to get the ones I've done scanned in and up in my shop, but then I decide to paint just one more... I'm now up to a collection of ten I think. Goliath, Rhinoceros, Stag, Tiger, Giant, Golden, Rainbow Stag, the list goes on! And the possibilities are endless as there are so many different color variations in the beetles, not to mention the males and females look different within the same species. I could probably spend an obscene amount of time creating these, but at some point I must move on.
I'm thinking of making a beetle pattern, something I need to improve my skills on anyway. I think they'll look really cool all crawling around together! I'm excited to get it done, but it will take some time as scanning and editing is always more of a sluggish process than painting for me. Here's another process photo-
