Celebrating a milestone birthday, like an 80th, is a special occasion that calls for a special celebration.

But not everyone wants or is able to enjoy a big party. A card shower is a great way to show someone how much you care without overwhelming them with a big party. If you've never heard of a card shower, let me tell you - they're an amazing way to celebrate any occasion - a big birthday, an anniversary, a new baby, you name it! I myself have thrown multiple card showers and they are always a huge hit!

Here are some tips for throwing a memorable card shower specifically for an 80th birthday:

1. The first thing to do is get the word out: Spread the word to family and friends that you are throwing a card shower for the birthday person. You can use social media, email, or even send out traditional invitations to let everyone know.

Use an attractive design, like this watercolor rose invitation, to make the invitations appealing and get people excited to join in! I created this invitation for my own family member's 80th birthday. Her birthday was in June, and roses are the flower of that particular month!

You could choose something personal - a favorite flower or hobby would be a perfect theme for your invites!

Or, you could also choose a photo invitation! (Not everyone will want their picture sent out to acquaintances though, so make sure you know you're birthday person would like that.)

You can view all of my available templates here.  Choose your favorite (or contact me for something new) to make the invitations appealing and get people excited to join in!

2. Personalize whatever invitation you choose: The invitations are the heart of the card shower. Make sure to personalize them with the birthday person's name, age, and any other special details.

  • Include any requests you may have, like including an old photo or memory in the cards. I highly recommend encouraging everyone to add a personal note, story, or photo to their card. It makes the card shower so much more meaningful!
  • If the card shower is a surprise, be sure to mention it on the invitation so no one accidentally spills the beans!
  • Do mention a date when the cards should be mailed by to ensure you can collect them all in time for the big birthday!
  • And don't forget to tell people where to send the cards. You can choose to have cards sent to you or another family member to collect and save until the big day, or, maybe you want the cards to be sent directly to the birthday person so they can have the thrill of getting lots of mail over the course of a few weeks!

3. Display the cards: Once the cards start arriving, you could choose to display them in a special way. You can create a custom scrapbook or memory album for the birthday person to keep, or simply hang them up on a string or bulletin board.

Remember, the goal of a card shower is to show the birthday person how much they are loved and appreciated. With a little planning and coordination, you can create a memorable celebration that will be treasured for years to come!
