Start with Invitations
Choose your invitations and how you'll send them.
Invitations are the first thing your guests will see and will set the tone for your party. If you'll be mailing your invites, there are traditional invitation cards available in my shop. You can choose from multiple styles and ages to fit your preference! Photo cards are a great way to show off your little lovebug and are particularly fun invitations for first birthday celebrations.

Gather Bug Themed Party Decorations
Choose your party supplies with love bugs in mind!
When it comes to planning a party, the decorations and supplies are key to making your theme come alive! You'll want to choose items that reflect your theme and get everyone in the spirit to celebrate!
Some exciting ideas for decorations include:
Bunting Flags
Flower Centerpiece with Plastic Bugs
Welcome Sign
Your Child's Bug Art
Balloons
Table Runner
Food Labels
For party supplies, consider choosing plates, cups, and napkins with matching love bugs or solid, matching colors. Custom confetti is a fun way to sprinkle your theme all over your party tables! And this brings us to the most fun part of the party to plan for... the food!
Load Up the Snack Table
Bug themed food and drinks are the perfect way to get your guests excited to celebrate!
Serve up some creepy crawly snacks to really amp your party theme up a notch! From appetizers to cake, you'll want to try to incorporate bugs into the foods you're offering. Luckily, there are tons of kid friendly snacks that lend themselves perfectly to the insect theme. Create a Bug Buffet with little effort and lots of snacks that guests will actually want to eat!

If your child is the VERY adventurous kind of eater, you could include some actual bugs on your snack table. Edible insects can be purchased online. A quick search and I found roasted crickets, scorpion pops, chocolate covered insect packs, pizza worms, and ant candy! This would be a real bug buffet to remember!
Create Games & Activities
A great way to get kids interested in science, nature, and bugs is through games!
Get your guests involved by choosing a handful of fun, bug themed games or activities! Combining structured games along with loose activity "centers" is a great way to make sure that there's always something to do!
Here are a few of my favorite ideas for getting the party started!
1. Host a Bug Hunt!
Like an Egg Hunt, but with bugs. Set up a table where kids can decorate a "bug bucket" (or just purchase buckets or bug catchers). Set out craft supplies like sharpie markers andso kids can put their names on their buckets and decorate them however they'd like. After they're finished with the creative task, they can then search around the room or yard for hidden bugs to add to their bucket! Use little toy plastic bugs, bug candy, or other novetly bug items that can be hidden around your party space!

- Craft Buckets
- Bug Catchers
- Candy filled eggs bugs (find them on Amazon here): You could use plain Easter Eggs and draw bug designs on them, or attach bug stickers to them, for a budget way to make this idea work!
- Bug filled eggs
- Bug stickers
- Bug erasers
2. Scavenger Hunt
Make it super easy on yourself and buy this cute Scavenger Hunt Game.
3. Personalized Bug Bingo!
Bingo - a classic game that everyone loves to play! Kick it up a notch with these custom Bingo boards that can be personalized with photos of your child, birthday details, and matching Love Bug illustrations! In order for this game to work, you'll need to order individual cards with different layouts. I've designed four layouts that you can then add different photos to, creating unique combinations of BINGO boards for guests!
4. Love Bug Beetles... Cornhole!
If you're really committed to this theme and want to invest in a party game that will extend well beyond this birthday, consider this matching cornhole set that pits the Atlas Beetles vs. the Goliath Beetles!
5. Sandbox Bug Dig
Hide plastic bugs in your sandbox and have plenty of shovels and rakes for the kids to dig for bugs! No sandbox? Use a large tub and fill it with a sensory item like beans, rice, or dry pasta! Young kids will love digging around and finding all the different bugs!
6. Spoon Bug Craft
You'll need an adult to run this station, but having a craft table will provide a fun activity and allow kids to create something they can take home with them! Find all the supplies and details here.
6. Hire a Bug Guy!
Forget clowns and magicians, hire a bug guy to show off some real creepy crawly cute bugs! Your guests will love being entertained and getting to see some super cool insects up close!
